Meditating

So often, when we encounter difficulty in life (whether it’s physical, mental or emotional), we cope by holding the body stiff.

Our experience of the body is shaped by many things: gravity, genetics, the environmental switches that turn our genes on and off, the ways we touch the world

Freedom devotion and karma yoga

Is there such a thing as an altruistic act? Or do all our actions contain an element of self-interest?

What exactly is ‘bandha’ anyway…?!😊🤷‍♀️

If you want to learn more, we’ll be exploring bandha on The Embodiment Project online platform in February. You can sign up for a free 7-day trial at the link in my bio 😊

On practicing yoga the ‘right’ way…

I don’t know about you, but I can think of lots of times when, having listened to different teachers or attended different trainings, I felt an inner tension:

There was the kind of practice I WAS doing….

The kind of practice I WANTED to be doing, and…

The kind of practice I felt I SHOULD be doing.

Then, one day, I attended a talk and the teacher said:

‘When it comes to your practice, the most important thing you can do is be honest about where you’re at’.

We all have some kind of internal dialogue about what we perceive as the gap between our actual self and our idealised self (especially in yoga).

It’s common to feel as though we have to practice according to the standards of our ideal self, even if it’s not what our actual self needs.

For each stage of practice, and life, the yoga we need is different.

For our practice to really work, it needs to address the real (wonderful, messy, imperfect) self, not the ideal self who is perpetually further down the road than we are.

Don’t want Samadhi yet? Ok!

Want yoga to improve your range of motion? It will do that.

Need support meditating because your mind is busy? No problem.

You will naturally evolve through the process of practicing and whoever you become as the result of that process gets to make the next decision.

Being exactly who you are in this moment is both the method and destination 💛
Yesterday I asked the question… When it comes t Yesterday I asked the question…

When it comes to sequencing your yoga practice, which camp are you in?

The:

‘Rules are there for a reason - I trust them more than myself’ camp?

Or the:

‘Rules? Boring 🥱They’re a downer on my creativity’ camp?

Both ends of the spectrum have something to offer and both have their limitations.

Yesterday’s post looked at the pros and cons of a ‘rules-based approach’ to sequencing (check it out if you’re interested). This video is part 2 of 2 (the pros and cons of following that more creative, intuitive way) 💛🌼

Where do you sit on this spectrum?
